Nicole relocated from out of state to be closer to her family and, upon investigating job search/job training opportunities, found that Western Maryland struggled with underemployment. It was in her search she discovered The Western Maryland Consortium. Through working with her appointed Career Counselor, Gail Groves, Nicole entered the Career Pathways Program, a cooperative education, career exploration, and job search assistance program designed to address experience, skills building, and more.
After expressing interest in welding, Gail arranged for Nicole to be enrolled in the welding series at Allegany College with tuition and materials cost assistance provided for by the Western Maryland Consortium, ensuring Nicole had nothing to worry over but her training.
Nicole has recently obtained employment. She had this to say about her path as she continues to work and educate herself:
“I enjoy learning a new trade skill that I can use to build my future. I really appreciate all the assistance from the Consortium that has pointed me in the right direction to improve my life.”
